RAPID CITY --- The South Dakota School of Mines women’s
volleyball team is just a month removed from the end of the 2013 season, but
the Lady Hardrockers are already preparing for 2014 as the coaching staff
announces its first signee, Kayla Henrichs as the newest member of the team.
Henrichs is a 5-foot-10-inch right side hitter from Liberty,
Mo. She’s been a three-year varsity letter-winner, a captain and starter for
Liberty High School Blue Jays. She helped lead Liberty to two consecutive
Class 4 District titles in 2012 and 2013 and the Blue Jays first ever Suburban
Big 6 conference title in 2013.
“I am really excited about the addition of Kayla to our
program for the 2014 season. She is going to have an immediate impact regarding
the depth of our program as a right side hitter,” said Lady Hardrocker
volleyball head coach Tiffany McCampbell. “She is a very athletic blocker
and a consistent, yet versatile attacker.”
Henrichs helped leader the 2013 team to a 30-4-2 finish and
she received Class 4 All-District honors as a junior and senior; Suburban Big 6
All-Conference honors as a senior and Academic All-State honors all four years
of high school.
“Kayla is a very competitive player who has played at a very
high level, coming off an exceptional 30-4 season at Liberty High School,”
McCampbell said. “I look forward to the athleticism and intelligence that
Kayla will bring to our program this fall.”
Henrichs has also played club volleyball for the Sandshark
Volleyball Club which qualified for Nationals the past two years. During
the 2014 club season, Henrichs will be playing for the ASICS MAVS Volleyball
Club in Kansas City, MO.
