New App and Platform “Hardrocker
Success” Aims to Improve Student Outcomes
South Dakota Mines is
launching a campus-wide initiative that will improve students’ academic
experiences and help them successfully complete their degrees.
Hardrocker Success is a mobile app
designed to help students effectively navigate their college career. Tasks
such as checking class schedules and locations and connecting and meeting with
faculty advisors during their available office hours will now be easily
accessible. Students can also find and meet deadlines like add/drop dates
and mid-term schedules. They can opt to receive notifications on their phone that
will help them meet deadlines and keep their college career on track. More information is
available in this video.
Hardrocker Success will also transform
academic advising. Faculty will now be able to access student
information easily and instantly. The program will help Mines faculty
better know the needs of individual advisees. It will help faculty and
administrators track a student’s progress and direct students to the resources
they need for success.
University leaders believe the new system will
improve effective communication with individual students. The system will also
track, annotate, and report progress throughout a student’s academic life.
Finally, the system will help direct students to resources and assistance, such
as tutoring and counseling, that will help empower them to take responsibility
for their own academic experience.
Hardrocker Success is part of
a program called Navigate which is a widely used student success management system
created by the company EAB. The platform is being implemented in all state
universities.
Administrators believe this platform will improve student retention by providing tailored help and a
personalized interactive experience.
