Information about Housing and Dining Services

Almost 1,100 students call SD Mines residence halls and apartments home while pursuing their education at the School of Mines.  Living on-campus can be one of the best experiences of your college years - getting to know your neighbors and yourself is fun, exciting and sometimes challenging.  To aid in your transition to Mines, more than 45 students are employed to provide support and assistance so you can learn, grow, and succeed at Mines.

You can find detailed information on housing options at our Residence Life website.  You will find photos, room dimensions, the Residence Life Handbook, housing application form, and more. SD Mines and all South Dakota Board of Regents universities have a 2-year residency requirement.  All students must live in campus housing two years after high school graduation (some exemptions apply).

Undergraduate students are assigned to a room with roommates based on the information provided in the housing application. Housing applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Assignments will be emailed to all new students via their Mines email address in mid-June. More information on residence life and housing application are available on the Residence Life website:  http://reslife.sdsmt.edu.

A variety of meal options and dining locations await you while living at SD Mines.  Options include:
  • The Miner’s Shack which features a convenience store, Papa John’s, and grill
  • Einstein’s Bagels and Coffee
  • Hardrocker Café, our cafeteria which features an expansive salad bar, grill station, action station, home station, and much more!

All residential students are required to have a meal plan with a variety of plans available.  Learn more about dining on Aramark’s MinesDining website.
