South Dakota Mines will recognize Veterans Day with a salute to service
event and a chili cookoff.
South Dakota Mines’ Veterans Club will host their
popular chili cook-off and raffle from 10 a.m.–1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7, in
the Beck Ballroom. The 11th annual event features multiple chilies
that the public can sample for a $5 fee and a raffle. The chili competition is
open to the public for a $15 entry fee. Anyone who wishes to enter a chili can email the Veterans Club for details.
South Dakota Mines will also host its annual
Veterans Day Salute event from 10:30 a.m.–noon on Thursday, Nov. 9. The annual
event honors SDM students, faculty and staff who are veterans. The raising of
the flag service will kick off at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Surbeck Center.
The event will move indoors afterward to the Beck Ballroom. This year’s guest
speaker is Col. David Moore of the South Dakota National Guard.
SDM continually ranks high for its service and value
to veterans. Military Friendly ranks Mines second among the top
military-friendly schools in the United States. SDM boasts a
100% graduate placement rate for military and veteran students in their field
of study over the past seven years.
