South Dakota Mines students
prepare for their annual scholarship fundraiser, the Sweetheart Dinner and
Dance, building instruments combining their STEM skills with their musical
talents.
For the
fifth consecutive year, students from South Dakota Mines will host the annual
Sweetheart Dinner and Dance, a fundraising event dedicated to supporting music
scholarships and the program, which has now expanded to include over 300
participants.
The fifth
edition of the Sweetheart Dinner and Dance is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on
Friday, Feb. 16, and Saturday, Feb. 17. The event will feature a four-course
meal accompanied by live entertainment presented by the music ensembles at the
Music Center on campus. The grand finale will be a one-hour live big band-era
dance, complemented by the serving of the final dessert course.
Participating
music ensembles in this event include the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, Singing
Engineers, Concert Choir and Hardrockappella Vocal Jazz Ensemble.
In a unique
showcase of STEAM skills, SDM students have been crafting instruments for one
of their musical pieces, utilizing techniques such as blacksmithing, casting,
3D printing and more.
Tickets are
priced at $75 per person, with all proceeds dedicated to scholarships. To
