Sen. Mike Rounds Gives SD Mines Commencement Address

RAPID CITY, SD (April 30, 2018) – U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds will deliver the address at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology 177th commencement ceremony at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center ice arena.

An expected 383 bachelor of science, master of science and doctoral degrees will be awarded during commencement.

Rounds served two terms in office as governor of South Dakota from 2003 to 2011. He was sworn into office as a U.S. senator on Jan. 6, 2015. He currently serves on the following committees: Senate Armed Services; Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs; Veterans’ Affairs; Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship and Environment and Public Works.. 

Rounds, who was born in Huron, earned his bachelor’s degree in political science from South Dakota State University in Brookings. In the private sector, he operated both an insurance and real estate company. When not in Washington, Rounds lives in Fort Pierre with his wife Jean.

SD Mines graduating senior Gina Elmore, from Hot Springs, will give the senior class representative message during the commencement. The Mines Brass Choir will also perform.
