Fire Near Mines Campus Quickly Controlled

A wildfire near the SD Mines campus was quickly brought under control by local fire crews.

(July 17, 2017) –  Rapid City firefighters quickly extinguished a wildfire that started on the grassy hills west of campus on Monday afternoon.  Flames could be seen from the center of campus. The fire burned on the hills adjacent to Palmerton Hall and the Surbeck Center. 

Thanks to the quick response from local fire crews, no evacuations of the SD Mines campus were necessary.
