APEX Gallery Show: You Are Welcome Participatory Art at a Science and Engineering School

Engineering, science, and art are not mutually exclusive. In fact, the creative process is essential for scientists and engineers who wish to push the boundaries of their disciplines. This is part of the impetus behind the new interactive art show, “You Are Welcome,”  at South Dakota School of Mines & Technology’s APEX Gallery.

The participatory art making experience, now underway, asks viewers to take an active role in the curatorial process, connecting with fellow viewers through artistic collaboration and creativity. Guided by written prompts, the exhibit will grow and change over time, resulting in a series of works that highlight our human inter-connectedness as well as our ability to think creatively.

The community is invited to exercise their own creativity by taking part. Please join us for following events which are free and open to the public:

  • Studio discussion/work day: Tuesday, Nov. 13: 4 p.m. (cookies provided!)
  • Studio discussion/work day: Thursday, Nov. 15: 11 a.m. (more cookies!)
  • Closing reception: Thursday, Nov. 29: 5-7 p.m. (light refreshments provided)

The APEX Gallery is located in Room 200 of the Classroom Building on the Mines campus (map here). The APEX gallery is open to the public Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
