Transfer Students

An applicant for admission to South Dakota Mines is considered a transfer applicant if he or she has enrolled for any college-level work, full or part-time, since graduation from high school or completion of GED.

South Dakota Mines has created transfer guides for regional institutions and surrounding states. These are reviewed yearly- please contact the Office of Admissions for the most up-to-date information.  

COVID-19 and Transfer Credit

Many institutions changed their grading and transfer policies in response to COVID-19's impact on the spring semester.  You can view more information about how South Dakota Mines and other Board of Regents institutions are working to be as flexible as possible with students below. South Dakota Mines will accept transfer credit that was graded in the pass/fail or satisfactory/unsatisfactory system.

Transfer Policies

In general, all academic credit from regionally accredited institutions will transfer to South Dakota Mines. Your official transfer evaluation (provided after acceptance) will detail how your transfer credit is applied to your degree.  You can view our policies regarding transfer credit in the South Dakota Mines Policy Manual.

Interstate Passport Program

South Dakota Mines, along with the other universities in the SD BOR University system, participates in the WICHE Interstate Passport Program.  This program facilitates block transfer of students’ earned lower-division general education courses based on learning outcomes via WICHE’s network of regionally accredited nonprofit member institutions.
