Tutoring and Academic Support

Need Help Navigating Numbers?

You came to South Dakota Mines to be challenged, but now that challenge is staring you right in the face. College classes may seem significantly harder than what you encountered in high school; or maybe you sailed through your freshman year, and now a particular course section is giving you trouble. Fortunately, many resources are available for students who need tutoring, coaching or support to help them master concepts and coursework.

Start early . . . and start at the Vanderboom Office of Student Success!

There are several different ways to get tutoring help.

Student Success Tutoring Center for Drop-in Tutoring

Located in the Devereux Library, 3rd Floor Slide Rule Lounge. The Tutoring Center will be open for Drop in Tutoring every Monday through Friday from 4:00pm – 9:00pm. Sunday evenings from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. We have Tutors qualified in a variety of content areas to help support students.

Before considering a session with our Tutors…

  • Are you going to class? Tutors do not replace attending and participating in your classes.
  • Are you attempting all assignments and homework? Tutors do not complete homework for the student and it would violate school policy.
  • Are you in communication with your professors?

Slide Rule Tutoring

The new Slide Rule is a drop in Math Help Center where students of all Math disciplines can come to work on their homework and get help with their mathematics.
