Are you up for the challenge?
Today's mining engineers use autonomous equipment, robotics, and artificial intelligence. They are environmentally conscious and continually develop and improve their mining operations. As the world transitions to a greener economy, the demand for materials that help create these energy sources and associated products is increasing. As such, the industry needs talented mining engineers.
Department head Dr. Robert Hall says the ideal mining engineering student is "curious, highly motivated, flexible, and dedicated to using their skills for the betterment of society."
It is an exciting time to be in mining engineering, as the industry shifts towards more battery-electric equipment, sustainable energy sources, and the integration of emerging technologies into mining operations.
Organizations and activities for MinE students

I chose Mines because of the location and atmosphere. I enjoy being by the (Black) Hills and having easy access to them and the Badlands. And my favorite thing about Mines is the people I have met and how great everyone is, especially in the mining engineering department.
