Chemistry Summer Camp
Colorful Concoctions: Summer of Spectra & Science
Explore the expanding and ever-changing world of Color Chemistry in this exciting, hands-on career camp! Throughout the week you won’t just be completing experiments – you’ll build real scientific skills as you uncover how color reveals the hidden workings of chemistry, biology, and forensic science.
Your Mission: Explore the Colorful World of Chemistry – From Crime Labs to Cells To Fireworks!
Featured Projects & Investigations
Forensic TLC Crime Analysis
Become a crime lab chemist! Use thin-layer chromatography (TLC) to analyze “mystery
inks,” compare evidence samples, and interpret chromatograms just like real forensic
investigators.
Enzyme Activity Color Assay
Step into the world of biochemistry using color-changing enzyme reactions. Measure
enzyme activity by monitoring color intensity and explore how temperature, pH, and
inhibitors affect reaction rates.
Flame Test: Colors of the Elements
Discover how fire can expose the “fingerprints” of elements. Perform flame tests to
see how different metals create brilliant colors—just like in fireworks and pyrotechnic
design.
And More
From pH indicators and pigments to separation science and chemiluminescence, you’ll
explore the kaleidoscope of chemistry through safe, exciting, and visually unforgettable
experiments.
Why This Matters:
This camp goes beyond simple experiments—you’ll learn how chemistry powers modern technology, crime labs, pharmaceuticals, environmental testing, and even art. By completing your Color Chemistry Demonstration Kit, you’ll prove that chemistry isn’t just something you read about in textbooks—it’s a dynamic, colorful force shaping the world around us.
