The 3D Printing Club is a special interest and commissions based club. The club focuses on exploring topics and engaging in activities that relate to 3D printing. In addition, the club also works on commissions given by students or companies that reach out to the club. Anyone is able to join the club even if they have very little knowledge on 3D printing.

ACS Student Chapter is a professional organization for students studying chemistry and adjacent majors. The organization hosts professional development opportunities, outreach events for K-12 students and the community, and fundraisers to help sponsor members attending the annual national ACS conference.

American Indian Science and Engineering Society
The American Indian Science and Engineering Society (AISES) is a non-profit professional association with the goal of substantially increasing American Indian, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander, First Nation and other indigenous peoples of North America representation in the fields of science, technology, engineering, math (STEM) and other related disciplines. As of 2011, AISES has 177 chartered college and university chapters and 13 professional chapters in the US and Canada. In addition, 150 affiliated K-12 schools enroll in excess of 45,000 Native American students.

American Welding Society - Black Hills Chapter
AWS (or "welding club") is a foundry club that meets to allow students to learn and practice welding. We have stick welding (SMAW), mig (GMAW), tig, and oxy-fuel welding. No experience necessary and all safety gear and material is provided as well. test

Baja SAE Racing
Baja SAE is a colligate competition team focused on designing, fabricating, and racing a single seat off road vehicle. Every year the team builds a new car and competes across the country. Last year at the Baja SAE Williamsport our team took 17th out of 107 teams and followed up with a 1st place victory at Backwoods Baja Menomonie.

Campus Kids (Big Brothers & Sisters of the Black Hills)
Campus Kids partners with Big Brothers and Sisters of the Black Hills to spend every Tuesday night with kids from the Rapid City area community. On these nights our members spend time participating in fun activities, dinner and conversations with the kids in the BBBS program waiting for a one on one mentor, to be positive adult role models in their lives. All while having loads of fun with a very great group of kids, college students, and Big Brothers and Sisters staff.  Making a difference isn't about changing someone's life, it's about being there for the "little" moments (that make a huge impact) and growing closer with the people around you.  Our sole purpose is to make a difference in the lives of all our kids, college students, and staff.

Concrete Canoe
The South Dakota Mines Concrete Canoe Team design, build, and compete in the ASCE Concrete Canoe Competition every year. For the competition, the team writes a project proposal, gives a technical presentation, and competes in races. Yes, it floats!

Engineers and Scientists Abroad
The ESA Ethos is: "Using the skills of engineering and science students in design, development, and construction of projects relevant to the advancement of developing international communities."

ESA combines engineering, science, and cultural exchange to address different infrastructure and educational needs. The design and prep of the selected project is completed throughout the school year, then a 1 to 3 week project trip occurs every spring. Past projects include water systems in Haiti, bridges in Guatemala, and a water tower in Liberia .

Our team designs and manufactures remote controlled aircraft to compete annually in the SAE Aero Design competition. We currently compete in the regular class competiton, which focuses on designing an aircraft with a large wingspan and high payload capacity.

Quiz bowl is a game in which two teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge, including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, popular culture, sports, and more. Hardrocker Racquetball Club
A group of people that meets every Monday and Friday at 5:30 PM to play racquetball casually. We will hold a tournament at the end of the year at the Roosevelt Swim Center. We also meet at the outside courts and Roosevelt Swim Center courts for practice occasionally.

National Society of Leadership and Success
The NSLS is the nation’s largest leadership honor society. In addition to honoring excellence, the NSLS provides a step-by step accredited program for members to build their leadership skills and the option to earn college credit. Upon completion of the program, members receive their leadership certificate and take their place among the top student leaders on their campus and across the country. Membership is for life and provides access to benefits including scholarships and awards, employer recruitment through an online job bank, and discounts on computers, textbooks, grad school prep courses, insurance, and much more

Built in the late 1960s and housing approximately 200 students, Palmerton Hall is one of the tallest buildings on campus with five floors. Palmerton is primarily home to first-year residents.

Peterson Hall | Residence Life
Peterson Hall houses nearly 300 first- and second-year students, offering doubles, triples, quads, and study quads with loftable beds. Connected to Surbeck Student Center, residents enjoy indoor access to dining. Interest Communities include Outdoor Pursuits and Exploring Rapid City, open to new first-year students through the housing agreement.

Ping Pong Rockers
The purpose of this club is to encourage the practice of this sport at the university and promote an active and healthy lifestyle among all members of the community. In addition, as in other sports, to teach the values of discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and respect. In turn, fulfilling these first objectives we will seek the creation of a table tennis team, in order to represent the university in the events that will take place during the year.

Residence Life | Connolly Hall
Built in the 1940s and housing 150 students, Connolly Hall is the oldest residence hall on campus. . Connolly houses first-year and returning residents in double rooms and offers a small number of single rooms. Connolly features wings with common bathrooms, large community lounges with kitchens and seating, and community laundry.

Residence Life | Placer Hall
Placer Hall, designed for second-year students, features 50 industrial-loft-style suites with exposed ceilings, concrete floors, and private bathrooms. Suites offer either two double bedrooms or four single bedrooms. Community lounges, kitchens, and study spaces are available throughout the six-story building.

Residence Life | Rocker Square Apartments
Rocker Square I & II feature loft-style apartments with exposed ceilings and stained cement floors for upper-division students. Units typically include four single bedrooms with some offering two or three singles. Residents have access to a group study room and the 24/7 Marketplace.

Rocker Robotics
We are the South Dakota Mines Rocker Robotics Team, a multidisciplinary team from South Dakota School of Mines and Technology that focuses on building land competition vehicles. These are typically autonomous wheeled or tracked vehicles. Every year we choose a competition to participate in and spend the next two semesters designing, building, and programming a robot for competition.

The Society of Automotive Engineers is an international organization of engineers founded in 1905 to help standardize and improve the automotive industry. At South Dakota Mines, we help support our Baja SAE, Formula SAE, Aero Design, and Clean Snowmobile teams.
Society of Economic Geologists
The Society of Economic Geologists is a student chapter of an international organization of the same name. We strive to educate students on the work of economic geologists and their role in society, which are taught through activities like field trips, conferences, talks by those in industry, and paper talks.

South Dakota Mines Clean Snowmobile
The South Dakota Mines Clean Snowmobile team modifies a market available snowmobile to improve performance, reduce exhaust emissions, reduce noise coming, and increase fuel efficiency. We compete against other schools across the United States and Canada in events including acceleration, endurance, and in-service emissions.

South Dakota Mines Mine Rescue
South Dakota Mines Mine Rescue is a student-led group that is dedicated to teaching students about the intricacies of mine rescue operations through engaging, hands-on trainings. Main topics discussed include underground exploration and firefighting, roles of team members, how to safely approach emergency situations, underground ventilation, first aid, and equipment maintenance. We travel across the US to competitions that help both professional and collegiate mine rescue teams keep their skills sharp as well host our own large-scale trainings and tour mine sites throughout the semester. Leadership, teamwork, and safety are at the core of everything done by South Dakota Mines Mine Rescue and what the organization stands for.

South Dakota Mines Paleontology Club
The South Dakota Mines Paleontology club is intended to foster support and community and provide education and outreach opportunities for SD Mines students interested in all facets of paleontology.

South Dakota Mines Steel Bridge Team
The South Dakota Mines Steel Bridge Team designs and constructs a 20-24-foot modular steel bridge each year. Every year the team competes in a regional and national competition, where the bridge is graded based on load testing and assembly speed.

SDSMFFC is dedicated to sharing the world of flyfishing to anyone who is interested in the sport. The club focuses on being a very relaxed and non-commitment based club which just goes fishing. It is a group of people looking for other people who want to go flyfishing. We occasionally participate in creek cleanups and community engagement.

Trapshooting Club
We promote Trapshooting, firearm safety, encourage extra-curricular activities, improve members’ skills, and allow students to become acquainted with other students and faculty that share a common interest. Each year, the Trapshooting club competes in a national competition every spring and fall. The competitions consist of shooting trap against the other universities virtually from our home range.

Formula Hardrocker Racing (SAE)
Formula Hardrocker Racing is a student-led team (no experience or major requirements), designing and building a new formula style autocross car from scratch every year, dating back to 1996. We take our car to Michigan International Speedway to compete against 120 of the top schools from around the world.

HardRocker Powered Rover
Interdisciplinary team that builds a rover that can be powered/operated by two people to complete an obstacle course at a competition held and ran by NASA called the Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC) that is held every spring.
