The Devereaux Library offers a wide variety of resources, for research, study, and entertainment.
The Devereaux Library houses the campus archives as well as several special historical collections pertaining to the history of the Black Hills region. Items in these collections are available to view by appointment only.
Digitization projects are on-going and many items are available in digital form at
Digital Library of South Dakota.
The Devereaux Library has a number of audio books available for check-out. The collection includes both fiction and non-fiction works.
All audio books are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
The Devereaux Library houses more than 80,000 volumes. The collection supports the academic interests of the South Dakota Mines campus, primarily in the fields of science and technology. In addition, the library offers books in many other areas
of interest including humanities, social sciences, business, language and literature.

The Devereaux Library offers print copies of many of the current best selling books. All volumes are cataloged and may be located using the library’s

The Devereaux Library has informational/documentary DVDs available for check-out. Some of these DVDs are for private home viewing, others are available for public viewing.

The Devereaux Library also offers E-Books. All volumes are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
The Devereaux Library offers access to extensive
Electronic Resources. To help you use those resources to further research and study projects, we've also created
Subject Guides for many of South Dakota Mines' academic programs.
The Devereaux Library has a collection of hundreds of feature films on DVD. These films are available for check-out for private home viewing. The collection consists of critically acclaimed classic films as well as current Academy Award winners.

The Devereaux Library receives government
documents from three sources:
- — The Federal Government Depository Library system (FDLP)
- — The Patent Office Resource Center (PTRC)
- — South Dakota State Governments depository system
Federal documents cover all aspects of the U.S. Federal Government. Devereaux focuses on science and engineering agencies, but receives documents covering all areas.
South Dakota state documents cover all aspects of state government. Devereaux Library’s collection includes some paper documents and many electronic resources. Many documents are available electronically, they can accessed via
South Dakota State Agency Databases and South Dakota State Library:
Digital Collections.
Most documents are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
Many federal documents are available electronically, they can be accessed via
U.S. Government Printing Office MetaLib database.
The Devereaux Library has journal titles in print form. The collection includes technical journals and popular magazines. In addition the library offers magazines in Overdrive.
All journals are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
Lists of all journal titles including electronic and print are available at OCLC A to Z Titles.
The Devereaux Library has numerous maps, primarily of the Black Hills and surrounding regions. Most of these maps were produced by U.S.G.S.; including topographic, geologic and other maps. Commercially produced maps as well as those produced by
other governmental agencies are also available. In addition to current maps, the library also has many historic maps including the
Sanborn maps for South Dakota.
All maps are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
The library also has numerous atlases available.
The Devereaux Library subscribes to a number of newspapers. Only the current week of each title is retained. These newspapers are housed in the library’s popular reading area, Downtime. Additional newspapers are available electronically, check
the journals lists,
EBSCO A-Z and
OCLC A to Z Titles.
The Devereaux Library is a United States Patent and Trademark Depository Library, the only one in the state of South Dakota.
Current patent and trademark information is available only online:
http://www.uspto.gov. Older print volumes of gazettes as well as some manuals and guides are available in the patent area at the library.
All print patent resources are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
The Devereaux Library has copies of theses and dissertations written by those who have obtained a Master’s degree and/or Ph.D. at South Dakota Mines. There are lending copies available for most of these available on the library’s open shelves
that may be checked-out. The original work is housed in the Archives. All theses are cataloged and may be located using the library’s
catalog.
