The above figures are estimates. Actual expenses will vary per student depending on actual credit hours, discipline fees, room/board options, etc.

Rounding for Tuition/Fees and campus Room/Board is to the nearest $10.

#Direct costs, tuition/fees, books/supplies (if purchased from the Rocker Shop), tablet PC, room and board (for students living in campus housing), are payable to SD Mines.

##Transportation and personal allowances are indirect expenses not payable to SD Mines. Students and families interested in the potential direct cost (what could be owed to the university for the school year) for attending SD Mines should take the above totals and subtract the transportation and personal expense amounts.

On/Off-Campus room estimate of $4780 is the average of all campus residence hall and apartment options from fall 2018.  As a result, other than for students living at home with a parent or relative, the allowances for room and board are the same whether living on or off campus.

* Beginning with fall 2018, new or new transfer students in the following tuition categories are also eligible for the SD resident tuition rate: Nebraska Advantage and Colorado Excellence.
^ Beginning with fall 2019, new or new transfer students from Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming are eligible for SD Resident tuition rate (there is no provision to "grandfather" any current students from these states into the SD Resident tuition rate).  Students from states other than South Dakota and those listed above with at least one parent or legal guardian who are graduates of the SD School of Mines & Technology are also eligible for SD Resident tuition rate; this is commonly referred to as the Hardrocker Heritage Award.

** Minnesota Reciprocity rates are generally determined late summer.  Like the 2018-2019 academic year in which the Minnesota Reciprocity rate was the same as for South Dakota residents, the Tuition Rate noted above is estimated to be the same again for 19-20 until the change, if any, is known.

*** WUE: Western Undergraduate Exchange Program - includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wyoming, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. New freshmen and transfer students beginning fall 2016 are eligible for this program.

The above estimate for fees reflects those fees that are both mandatory and common for the majority of students.  Your actual charges will likely be different than stated above based upon the actual number of credit hours you are enrolled in.
