Brief Bio
Dr. Darren Clabo is the South Dakota State Fire Meteorologist and an Associate Professor
of Practice at South Dakota Mines. As a faculty member at SD Mines, he teaches a variety
of atmospheric science and engineering mechanics courses and is an active researcher
with focus on fire-atmosphere interactions and wildfire climatology.
In his capacity as State Fire Meteorologist, he works in collaboration with interagency
officials in the prevention and suppression of wildland fires and in the preparation
and execution of prescribed fires. Additionally, he is an Incident Meteorologist (IMET)
for one of three Rocky Mountain Area Complex Incident Management Teams and is an AMS
Certified Consulting Meteorologist (CCM #777). Dr. Clabo is very passionate about
serving wildland fire managers and works hard to provide a bridge between the academic
and operational communities.
