Brief Bio
Amy DiRienzo is a licensed Professional Engineer in South Dakota and joined CAMP in
2022 after starting her career as a consulting engineer in the mining industry. She
was the first to use video-monitoring technology to measure structural and equipment
movements in underground and surface mines. As the lead investigator, she helped develop
a real-time hazard warning system using video-monitoring technology for detecting
and monitoring ground-support issues in underground mines. She also has extensive
experience in numerical modeling of geomechanics problems in the salt-mining and petroleum-storage
industries.
Amy is active in K-12 STEM outreach and maintains connections in the engineering industry
as a member of the South Dakota Engineering Society. As CAMP's Director, she builds
industry and community relationships to enhance the program while providing meaningful
student opportunities. She oversees CAMP’s daily operations, offering leadership and
guidance to ensure collaboration, strong university representation, and continuous
improvement.
