Brief Bio

Dr. Gibson is a professor of psychology in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences Department. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of West Georgia focused consciousness and society with particular emphasis on the dynamic interaction between the mind and body. In his free time, he enjoys golf, hiking, fly fishing in the Black Hills, and losing to his kids in Mario Kart on the Nintendo Switch. 

Research Expertise

Dr. Gibson’s research is focused on meditation, mindfulness, and interoception – awareness of the internal state of the body. He specifically studies how meditation can increase interoception and how increased interoception is linked to stress and emotional regulation, improvements in cognition, relational harmony, a sense of self, and psychological well-being.
