Brief Bio
Dr. Kandadai is a Research Scientist I in the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering
department. He holds a bachelor's degree in metallurgical and Materials Engineering
from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University affiliated college, a master's degree
in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Texas at Arlington, and
a doctoral degree in Materials Engineering and Science from South Dakota School of
Mines and Technology. In addition to his academia, Dr. Kandadai also has 2 years of
mining experience at Nevada Gold Mines.
Research Experience
Dr. Kandadai's research centered on the development of advanced coatings and structure-property relationships in materials. He has significant expertise in thin film development using CVD/PVD (PLD, sputtering, IBAD), cold spray additive manufacturing, and alloy development using vacuum arc melting. He is skilled in utilizing various characterization tools such as microscopy, spectroscopy, mechanical testing, corrosion testing, and tribology to evaluate material properties comprehensively. Dr. Kandadai is involved in multiple research projects funded by NSF, DOE, Airforce, and NASA. Dr. Kandadai has also presented his research findings at various international conferences and has authored/co-authored several peer-reviewed journal articles, reflecting his commitment to advancing materials science.
