Brief Bio
Dr. Uzunlar spent more than 20 years as an exploration geologist, exploration manager and VP exploration for gold and base metal companies in 12 countries including USA and Canada before returning to SD Mines in 2003. He then returned to SD Mines as research scientist. He became the full time director of Black Hills Natural Sciences Field Station (BHNSFS) where he established multiple field courses worldwide in nine locations.
Research Expertise
Dr. Uzunlar mainly manages the field station and co-teaches field courses. His research interest are Geothermal Energy, Engineered Geothermal Systems and Critical minerals.
Teaching
Dr. Uzunlar co-teaches multiple sessions of:
GEOL 410 - Field Geology; offered during summer in the Black Hills ( two sessions),
SD, Montana, Turkiye, Spain and Morocco.
GEOL 412/512 - Science and Engineering Field Applications; offered both in summer
and winter at various locations including, Black Hills, Death Valley, Arizona, Utah,
Western California, Hawaii, Nepal, Ecuador, France, Iceland and New Zealand.
