Brief Bio
Karen Westergaard began her teaching career in higher education at the University of South Dakota, enjoying 10 years there. She also taught at Augustana College, the University of Sioux Falls, and Black Hills State University before finding her home at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Westergaard joined SD Mines in 1998, teaching Stem Communications in the Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences program. SD Mines has become an integral part of her life with its many talented and driven students. Her main teaching focus is in connecting with her students, not only preparing them to succeed in their career fields but also in their futures after SD Mines. Westergaard is also involved with the CAMP program, assisting members in effectively functioning as teams and presenting their work orally as well as in written reports.
