Mines Equips Students to Shine at Fall Career Fair

More than 1,000 South Dakota Mines students across every major will connect with top science and engineering companies at the annual Fall Career Fair on Tuesday, Sept. 16, from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. in the King Center, aiming to land jobs and internships.
More than 200 industry leaders from across the United States will attend the fair, eager to recruit the university’s top talent. South Dakota Mines graduates remain highly sought after. A total of 97 percent of the most recent graduating class are employed in their field of study or are in graduate school and have an average starting salary of $77,067.
“Employers consistently seek out our students, and many secure positions with leading companies even before graduation,” said Mines President Brian Tande, Ph.D. “This speaks volumes about the caliber of both our students and our faculty.”
From resume building and interview skills to wardrobe, the university’s career services center equips students with everything they need to succeed at the annual career fairs.
“In the weeks leading up to the career fair, we offer workshops and dedicated resume reviews to ensure students are well prepared,” said Corinne Heiberger, interim associate vice president for student success.
In addition, the center helps students “dress for success.” This semester, they launched Grubby’s Career Closet, where students can shop for professional attire free of charge, and have partnered with local businesses, Mainstreet Menswear and Byrch Boutique, to help outfit the students, as well as the Salvation Army of the Black Hills, which provides vouchers for free professional business wear.
South Dakota Mines' career fairs are regularly some of the largest in the state. Vendors and companies at the fall career fair include Freeport-McMoRan, Emerson, Caterpillar, Cargill, RTX-Collins Aerospace, Doosan Bobcat, Kiewit, Nucor, Omnitech, Daktronics, CNH Industrial, Halliburton and RESPEC, among many others. Companies represent 35 states. A total of 64 companies are South Dakota-based, 82 have a presence in South Dakota and 21 companies are from the Black Hills.
Media are welcome to attend the event. Note: South Dakota Mines' career fairs are open to Mines students and alumni only.
