Student Research Symposium
The Office of Research Affairs at South Dakota Mines will host the 16th annual Student Research Symposium on March 31, 2026, in the Surbeck Center's Beck Ballroom.
The symposium is open to both graduate and undergraduate students. To be considered, submit an abstract describing your research by March 3.*
*Students may submit an abstract for either an oral presentation or a poster presentation, not both. See additional guidelines below for details.
Guidelines
A total of $4,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to the top submissions during the Honors Convocation in the Beck Ballroom on April 17.
- Abstract requirements include:
- Title
- Student author's name and department
- Mentor/advisor's name and department
- Abstract text (maximum of 2000 characters; title, names, and affiliations not included in that limit)
- Do not include figures, tables, images, or references
- Oral presentations are limited to 20 minutes, which includes the set-up, presentation, and question and answer period.
- The poster's orientation must be landscape, with maximum dimensions of 34 inches by 44 inches.
- Students should be stationed at their poster for the entirety of their assigned session; sessions run 2 hours and 20 minutes.

- Cash prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in each category: Undergraduate
Oral, Graduate Oral, Undergraduate Poster, and Graduate Poster.
- 1st Prize - $500
- 2nd Prize - $300
- 3rd Prize - $200
- The winners will be recognized at the Honors Convocation on Friday, April 17, in the Beck Ballroom. The event starts at 4 p.m.
