Sample Processing Laboratory

This laboratory provides space for the processing of sediment samples, which are broken down; screen-washed to remove mud and silt; and then examined to find small fossils, or microfossils.

Microfossils are valuable because they can reconstruct past environments and ages more accurately than with just fossils of larger animals. This laboratory hosts equipment for the screening and examination of sediments and storing fluid-preserved specimens.

Visitors are invited to watch work in progress through the large window in this laboratory.
