Construction Engineering and Management MS

A flexible and affordable online master's program, so you can keep working while pursuing a degree. Designed in partnership with the construction industry, this degree blends technical skills needed by professionals with the management study you need to advance your career.

Students can enter the program at any one of the three semesters during the year, and choose core classes and electives to match their individual interests and career goals. Courses follow traditional weekly schedules but you can attend classes face-to-face, streamed live, or watch the recordeding when it works with your schedule. Classwork for all students is completed and submitted online.

Admission Requirements

All candidates for this degree must possess a bachelor‘s degree from a four-year accredited institution, in which satisfactory performance has been demonstrated. In addition to these requirements, the following minimum bachelor‘s level credits shall have been completed:

  1. Mathematics to include algebra, basic calculus, probability and statistics.
  2. Six semester hours of natural and physical science typically completed as a general education requirement in the fields of geology, astronomy, biology, meteorology, chemistry, and physics. Must include at least 3 credit hours of chemistry or physics.

Note that individual elective courses may have additional prerequisite requirements that must be satisfied for enrollment.

A maximum of 12 semester hours of relevant credit from a regionally accredited institution may be transferred into the candidate‘s program.

Application materials will be evaluated by the admission committee composed of the program director and such other faculty as deemed appropriate for the review. Recommendations from this committee will be made to the Dean of Graduate Education at the School of Mines.

Program Educational Objectives

Graduates leave the program with the capacity to contribute to the (1) managerial, (2) technical, and (3) organizational aspect of construction project as viewed from the perspective of the owner, design professional, and constructor.

Tuition

The Construction Engineering and Management MS requires 33 credits. Cost for the distance program is $610.80 per credit hour, or approximately $21,000 for your masters degree. Other than the one time application fee of $35, there are currently no other costs except for books. South Dakota residents are eligible for a discount to $442.05 per credit hour. ( 2016/17 Graduate Tuition and Fees, may change in future years )
