Associate Director, Museum of Geology - Nathaniel Fox

Nathaniel Fox is the Associate Director of the Museum of Geology at the South Dakota Mines. He received a B.S. in Biology in 2011 from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a M.S. in Geosciences in 2014 from East Tennessee State University. Nathaniel worked as a mitigation paleontologist for SWCA Environmental Consultants in Sheridan, Wyoming, from 2014 to 2015 and started his PhD program at the University of California Merced in August 2015. He worked as an Assistant Collections Manager at the La Brea Tar Pits and Museum in 2018 and earned a Ph.D. in Environmental Systems from UC Merced in 2020. His dissertation research focused on the taxonomy, community ecology, and stable isotope ecology of late Quaternary small mammals from the Rancho La Brea Tar Pits in Los Angeles, California. After completing his graduate studies, Nathaniel transitioned to his role as Associate Director of the Museum of Geology in August 2020.
