Dean of Students

We want you to flourish at South Dakota Mines. And we know, sometimes, life gets complicated: unexpected illnesses, family situations, financial strains, and academic stresses.

We’re here to help, with a wealth of resources, services, and programming, or simply an open door. From our Residence Life staff to our Veteran’s Resource Center, we’re committed to creating a healthy, engaging environment for all of our students, inside the classroom and out.

A Message from:

Dr. Joe Dlugos,
Associate Vice President for Student Development and Dean of Students

Joe Dlugos

For me, students are the best thing about South Dakota Mines.

Our staff in the Student Development Division are committed to making your time at South Dakota Mines safe, inclusive, and fun. We’ll also teach you some things along the way because we value education both in and outside the classroom.

Personally, I joined the South Dakota Mines community in the summer of 2021 because I was drawn to the supportive campus, the dedication to academics, and the tenacity in which the community handles challenges presented to them. Prior to my time here, I served in various Student Development roles at Barton College in eastern North Carolina and Concordia College in western Minnesota.

I encourage you to form relationships with our Student Development Team in the following areas and to use those resources often:

Beyond that, drop in the office, call me, or email me whenever you need. I am here for you.

Sincerely,
Dr. Joe
