Faculty Development Microgrants

OBJECTIVES

OFDA Microgrants are designed to support course improvement efforts or career development by SD Mines Faculty. The Microgrants are intended to provide funds for ideas that will seed improvements in areas such as student learning, teaching infrastructure, and professional development.

ELIGIBILITY

All full-time faculty, including lecturers, research scientists and tenure track professors at any level, are welcome to apply.

Teams of faculty are welcome to apply. One member of the team should be identified as the corresponding faculty member and will be responsible for the micro-grant budget.

FUNDING

Approximately $5000 in funds are available for Fall - Spring 2023-24.

Individual course improvement grants not involving travel will be $750. Teams of 3 or more faculty members may request up to $1250.

Travel requests will be considered for $500 and must be related to teaching or pedagogy. Software purchase requests must be pre-approved by ITS prior to application. Money may not be used to cover salary. Funds must be used and/or travel be completed by June 15, 2024.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Please include the following in your application

Name of applicant or applicants, department(s) and job title(s);
A brief overview of the proposed activity.
A short explanation of how the microgrant will improve student learning, classroom experience or career development.
A metric or assessment method for measuring success of the proposed activity or activities.
A proposal for disseminating the results of the microgrant to campus.

Please send your application, no more than 2 pages in length to faculty.development@sdsmt.edu by Wednesday, September 20, 2023.
